Finestrat is preparing for the passage of the queen stage of the Vuelta a España this Sunday, August 30 at 12:30 p.m. The peloton starts from La Vila Joiosa and starts the clock right at the entrance to the municipality of Finestrat on the CV-759. The passage through Finestrat is scheduled at around 12:30 p.m. on the CV-767, surrounding La Penya until it reaches Avenida Aitana, Camí de Reis, Avenida Benidorm and continuing its journey along the CV-758 towards La Nucia.

And before, at around 10.30 am, to encourage the fans to witness this sporting event, the “Caravan of the Vuelta” will arrive in Finestrat.

The “Caravan” of the Vuelta
To set the scene for the cyclists, Benidorm Avenue will host “LA CARAVANA DE LA VUELTA” from 10:30 a.m. It is one of the most festive parts surrounding the race, a spectacle of more than 20 vehicles that precedes the passage of the cycling peloton. During the parade, gifts will be distributed among the public present there. All this in a festive atmosphere enlivened by music and activities for children.

Specifically, from the Department of Children and Youth they have organized children’s workshops at street level, next to the Caravan, for boys and girls to make jerseys, medals, pennants or bibs. “The caravan of La Vuelta is a party. It is a way of encouraging the fans and the general population to see the cycling peloton pass through Finestrat facing one of the toughest stages of the Vuelta a España 2026,” said the Councilor for Sports, Beatriz Quintillán. “For our part, from Finestrat and given the great love that exists for cycling, we are delighted to host this stage that will project the image of our town to the whole world, once again, through sport”.

After the stop of the Caravan, the sports party will continue with the passage of the cycling peloton in stage 9 of the Vuelta Ciclista at around 12:30 p.m.

Traffic cuts and parking
restrictionsThe Councilor for Sports, also for Security and Traffic, reported on the security device deployed on the occasion of this sporting event and the traffic cuts that will occur to host the Caravan and the subsequent passage of the peloton:

• Between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. there will be a closure of the section of Benidorm Avenue, between Puig Campana street and Fonteta street junction (in both directions of traffic) due to the location of La Caravana.

• In the indicated section, between 12:15 and 12:45 hours there will be a traffic cut due to the passage of the race through Finestrat.

• It will not be possible to park from Saturday, August 29 from 11:00 p.m. on the entire section of the race between Avenida Aitana, Camí de Reis and Avenida Benidorm.

Stage 9 of the very high mountains will be held this Sunday, August 30 and will cover 187 kilometers from Villajoyosa to Finestrat, La Nucia, Polop, Callosa d’En Sarrià, Bolulla, Tàrbena, Parcent, Orba, Tormos, Sagra, Pego, L’Atzúbia, Benirrama (Vall de Gallinera), Benialí (Vall de Gallinera), Alcalà de la Jovada (La Vall d’Alcalà), Tollos, Fageca, Quatretondeta, Gorga Benilloba, Benasau, Alcoleja, Penàguila, Benifallim, La Torre de les Maçanes, Relleu and Sella.

The climb to the mythical Alto de El Miserat, first category, and Puerto de Tudons, second category, will be two of the key moments of the race, which will reach its peak during the ascent of the Sierra de Aitana, one of the historic peaks of La Vuelta that returns after a decade of absence, precisely the year in which the 25th anniversary of its debut in the competition is celebrated.

In the sports field, cyclists face 7 summit finishes; 2 individual time trials; 4 mid-mountain stages; 6 mountain stages, and 9 flat or undulating stages, one of them with a high finish.
