Finestrat presents the 49th edition of the International Beach Volleyball Tournament of La Cala de Finestrat, the oldest in Spain

The competition will be held from August 14 to 16 and will once again bring together top-level national and international players in La Cala. Registration remains open until August 10.

The City Council of Finestrat has presented this morning the 49th edition of the International Beach Volleyball Tournament of La Cala, one of the most emblematic sports events of the summer and the beach volleyball tournament with the greatest tradition in Spain. The competition will be held from August 14 to 16 and will once again turn La Cala into the meeting point for some of the best players on the national and international scene.

The presentation was attended by the Councilor for Sports, Beatriz Quintillán; the president of the Volleyball Federation of the Valencian Community, Arturo Ruiz; the technical director of the Finestrat Volleyball Club, Juanvi Llinares; and the mayor of Finestrat, Nati Algado.

The Councilor for Sports, Beatriz Quintillán, stressed that this competition “has been part of the history of Finestrat for almost five decades” and encouraged teams to register before August 10. “Every summer our beach becomes a great sports venue where you can experience an extraordinary atmosphere both inside and outside the sand. It is a tournament that is already part of the identity of Finestrat and that, in addition to promoting sport, contributes to making our municipality known and boosting economic activity in the middle of the summer season”.

Beatriz Quintillán recalled that the last edition brought together more than 60 teams and brought together more than 500 spectators during the grand final, figures that consolidate this competition as one of the most outstanding on the national beach volleyball calendar.

For his part, the technical director of the Finestrat Volleyball Club, Juanvi Llinares, valued the organizational effort required by an event of these characteristics and thanked the work of the many volunteers who make the tournament possible year after year.

Llinares explained that beach volleyball will be the protagonist for three consecutive days. On August 14 , the 4×4 Mixed Tournament will be played; on August 15, coinciding with the feast of the Assumption, the historic International Tournament for men and women will take place; and on August 16 the finals of the A2 Circuit of the Valencian Community will be held, a qualifying test for the Spanish Championship.

He also stressed that one of the great attractions of the tournament is the coexistence between elite athletes and amateur players, a feature that has made this event a benchmark within Spanish beach volleyball.

The president of the Volleyball Federation of the Valencian Community, Arturo Ruiz, underlined the prestige achieved by this competition after 49 consecutive editions. “To talk about the tournament in La Cala de Finestrat is to talk about the history of beach volleyball in Spain. It is a competition that all the players know and in which they want to participate because of the quality of its organization, the privileged environment in which it is held and the great atmosphere that is experienced throughout the day”.

Arturo Ruiz recalled that the 2025 edition brought together athletes from more than fifteen countries and advanced that this year the participation of high-level players such as Venezuelan internationals Juan Manuel Escalona and Carlos Rangel is already planned; Dani Moreno and Roberto San Félix, Futures World Champions; Nazaret Florián, Futures world bronze; Sira Plaza and Mireia Guilabert, champion and runner-up of the Iberdrola Super League; as well as the local player Rebeca Fernández, runner-up in the +34 World Cup, as well as other athletes from the Spanish national team and the international circuit.

Registration will remain open until August 10 and can be done through the Volleyball Federation of the Valencian Community and the BeachLiga platform.

The mayor of Finestrat, Nati Algado, closed the event by highlighting the importance of this tournament for the municipality.

“For Finestrat it is a pride to host one of the most historic sporting events in our country. To talk about the International Beach Volleyball Tournament of La Cala is to talk about almost fifty years of sport, effort and an event that is part of our identity,” he said.

The mayor stressed that each edition projects the image of Finestrat as a sports and tourist destination of reference. “During these days we receive athletes from numerous countries, along with hundreds of neighbors and visitors who enjoy a unique atmosphere by the sea. It is an event that generates economic activity, promotes our municipality and demonstrates Finestrat’s ability to organize large events throughout the year”.

Nati Algado thanked the joint work of the Volleyball Federation of the Valencian Community, the Finestrat Volleyball Club, the Department of Sports, the volunteers, the municipal services and the security forces that collaborate in the development of the tournament. “Behind an event of these characteristics there are many people working so that everything goes well. Thanks to this collective effort, La Cala will once again become the capital of beach volleyball for three days. We invite neighbors, visitors and sports fans to enjoy this great show that is already a summer tradition in Finestrat,” concluded the mayor.
