The medieval history of Finestrat is the focus of the conference for International Museum Day
23/05/2026Improving the use of the water that emanates from the “Font del Molí” for the irrigation of the orchard is the main objective of the extension of the collaboration agreement signed between the City Council and the Community of Irrigators “Els Molins” of Finestrat through the signature by the Mayor, Nati Algado, and the President of the Community, Vicente Martínez, respectively.
The purpose of the agreement is to collaborate in the efficient use and distribution of irrigation water, guaranteeing the correct traditional hydraulic management of the Font dels Molins, the maintenance of the irrigation system, the supply to the urban area and orchard area and the improvement of efficiency in the distribution of water.
“Water management is a priority. And the collaboration with our irrigators too. We have more than 400 hectares of orchards. It is key to continue working to maintain and renovate facilities that guarantee the efficient use of irrigation water. This agreement also allows everything related to the conservation and maintenance of the irrigation ditches to be carried out,” said the Councilor for Works and Projects, Guillermo Lloret.
In addition to the contribution of €95,000 from the City Council, the Irrigators have the support of the Generalitat to modernize infrastructures such as the Alhambra Reservoir. “There they are right now finishing the recovery and re-waterproofing work of the reservoir with an investment of close to half a million euros by the Generalitat”.
The Alicante Provincial Council has also made available to irrigators a tank in the Font del Molí that allows them to serve the highest areas of the Finestrat orchard.
It should be remembered that the “Els Molins” Irrigation Community is one of the oldest entities in Finestrat, constituted in May 1851 and is attached to the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation. (PRESS OFFICE.22.5.2026)
