Finestrat, training headquarters for police officers throughout the province to detect drugs while driving through the “drug test”

More than 30 police officers from all over the province, 11 of them from the Finestrat staff, participate in the House of Culture in training to detect drugs while driving. The training is given by the SPPLB (Professional Union of Local Police and Firefighters) in collaboration with the City Council of Finestrat. And it is approved by the IVASPE (Valencian Institute of Public Security and Emergencies).

“Good practice comes from good theory. If training is key in all professions, in the field of security it is essential. This week in Finestrat we are giving our local police the training and approved tools to detect who gets behind the wheel under the influence of drugs, with all the risks that this entails for the safety of the driver himself or all the people he or she crosses on the road or traveling on our streets”, said the Mayor, Nati Algado. At the opening of this day he was accompanied by the Councilor for Security, Beatriz Quintillán, the Chief Inspector of the Local Police, Agustín Rubio, the Provincial Deputy Secretary of the SPPLB Union, Francisco Ángel González and the trainer of the union and expert in the field, Rubén Martínez.

Once this training, approved by IVASPE, is completed, the attending police officers will be able to use methods of detecting drugs while driving, such as the “drug test”, a device based on a saliva sample that detects recent consumption of drugs such as cannabis, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, methamphetamine, etc.

In total, there are 25 hours of training that are taught throughout this week in the auditorium of the Casa de Cultura de Finestrat. Theoretical methodology, including medical training, and also practical sessions in real environments.

From the Union, they made public their gratitude to the City Council, the Department of Citizen Security and the Local Police Headquarters of Finestrat “for betting on this specific training, approved and, therefore, with full legal validity to detect drug use in those who get behind the wheel”.
