The City Council of Finestrat supports ASMIBE for the development of horticultural therapy workshops

The Finestrat City Council will support ASMIBE in the development of horticultural therapy workshops. This has been established through the signing of what is the first collaboration agreement between the Finestrense consistory and this Association that provides care, inclusion and support to people with disabilities in the Marina Baixa. The agreement was signed by the mayor of Finestrat, Nati Algado and the President of ASMIBE, Agripina Fernández, with the presence of the Councilor for Social Services, Mª Teresa Pérez and the members of the board of directors of ASMIBE, Manoli Fernández (Secretary) and José Antonio Pérez (Treasurer).

This agreement is an important step forward in Finestrat’s municipal commitment to equal opportunities, social inclusion and the well-being of people with disabilities and their families. Through this agreement, the City Council will make an economic contribution of € 1,500 to support the development of the Horticultural Therapy Workshop, as well as for its users.

The Councilor for Social Services, Mª Teresa Pérez, explained that “the signing of this agreement reflects the will of the City Council to support initiatives that generate opportunities, promote personal autonomy and improve the quality of life of people with disabilities. On numerous occasions we have gone to ASMIBE to ask them for details that they make manually in their workshops such as the 8M bracelets or the keychains that they made for the March of the Women against cancer. Now we are taking a very important step by establishing, for the 1st time, this framework of collaboration with which we are going to help them carry out their horticultural workshop, a tool of great educational and therapeutic value, which promotes practical learning, responsibility, teamwork and, something very valuable, contact with the natural environment”.

The horticultural workshop represents a therapeutic and rehabilitative activity based on the cultivation and work with plants as a psychosocial intervention tool, aimed at promoting the cognitive, sensory, motor and emotional stimulation of the participants, as well as promoting their social inclusion. “Undoubtedly, working their own garden offers them a space for coexistence and personal growth that contributes to the development of their autonomy and their abilities,” concluded Mª Teresa Pérez.

With this collaboration, the City Council reaffirms its commitment to inclusion policies and to support social entities that work daily to build a fairer, more supportive and accessible community for all. (PRESS OFFICE.9.7.2026)

ASMIBE was established in October 1992 when a group of families came together to find solutions to the problems of their children with disabilities, since the administration did not respond to their problems at that time.
It is a non-profit organisation, whose scope of action covers the entire region of La Marina Baixa, and which welcomes any person with functional diversity whose disability is equal to or greater than 33%.
The work and purpose of this NGO is, as contemplated in its statutes:
To ensure that persons with disabilities, whatever their nature and age, enjoy all their rights to education, social participation, rehabilitation, work and the development of their capacities.
