07/10/2026The City Council is working in different areas of the municipality to improve access to homes and reduce the accumulation of vegetation in the ditches.
The Finestrat City Council continues to strengthen maintenance and prevention efforts in the rural areas of the municipality with a new campaign to clean and clear municipal roads and spaces, an intervention that combines improved safety and accessibility with prevention against the risk of forest fires.
The work is being carried out in the different urbanizations and rural areas of Finestrat such as El Molí, El Toll, Racó Bosuna, La Tapià-Umbría, La Sima, El Realet, Els Cremats and L’Alqueria, La Foia, Camí de L’Alfàs, Pla Sellés as well as in other points of the municipal area where it is necessary to act on the vegetation.
During her visit to the works, the mayor of Finestrat, Nati Algado , along with the councilor for the Environment, Estela Álvarez and the councilor for rural districts, Tomás Sellés, stressed that “maintaining our rural roads in good condition is a matter of safety, especially for people who live in scattered houses, but it is also a fundamental measure of prevention against forest fires.”
“The City Council wants to continue working year-round on the maintenance of our municipality, anticipating needs and acting wherever necessary. Prevention is key, and these actions allow us to have more accessible paths and areas with less vegetation,” the mayor added.
The work includes clearing and treating vegetation in various areas, especially where overgrown vegetation could hinder access or increase the risk of fire. It also improves traffic conditions on roads leading to homes and farms in the rural area.
Actions supported by the Alicante Provincial Council
The work being carried out consists of clearing debris from the ditches and verges and pruning vegetation encroaching on the roads. The Alicante Provincial Council has contributed €3,000 as part of its program to promote agriculture and support rural areas (current expenditure).
Local Fire Prevention Plan
It is worth remembering that the City Council has been developing the Local Fire Prevention Plan for several years with actions such as these brush clearings and also the construction of firebreaks in the different rural areas of the municipality.
The mayor has highlighted the collaboration between administrations to “continue advancing in a prevention policy that protects our natural environment, facilitates access to rural areas and contributes to improving the safety of our residents.”
