Finestrat carries out a forest fire drill in the shady walled area to reinforce coordination and response times

Firefighters, local police and municipal technicians participate in a practical exercise to evaluate the response to a fire

The City Council of Finestrat has developed a forest fire drill in the area of Tapiada Umbría, one of the areas of the municipality with the greatest complexity of access for emergency teams. The exercise is part of the actions to prepare for the season of greatest risk of forest fires. Members of the Benidorm Park Fire Brigade, the chief and members of the Local Police of Finestrat, as well as municipal technicians who have put into practice the protocols of action in the event of a hypothetical fire in this area of special operational difficulty due to

The main objective has been to evaluate and improve coordination between the different bodies involved, optimize response times and reinforce the effectiveness of communications during a real emergency. The mayor of Finestrat, Nati Algado, together with the first deputy mayor, Víctor Darío Llinares and the councillors for Citizen Security, Beatriz Quintillán and the Environment, Estela Álvarez, attended the development of the simulation exercise to learn first-hand about the device deployed, check on the ground the response capacity of the troops and transfer their support to all professionals participants. The mayor, Nati Algado, has highlighted the importance of this type of preventive initiatives: “We have attended a drill that has been carried out in the area of La Tapiada, one of the areas of Finestrat where this urban-forest interface coincides and that has a clear objective that is to check the response capacity of the municipal and emergency services before a hypothetical forest fire scenario and evaluate all the procedures that our Local Forest Fire Plan has, which is coordination, communication, resource mobilization and protection of the population. Inter-administrative coordination is also key, that coordination with the Benidorm Fire Station in the face of a hypothetical fire, improving response times, in short, which guarantee that safety both for the residents of the area and the protection of an area of great environmental value”.

Likewise, the mayor wanted to thank the work of all the professionals involved: Local Police, Provincial Firefighters Consortium, brigades and Municipal Technicians: “We have great human teams that carry out essential work for the protection of our municipality. This drill allows us to check the response capacity of our services on the ground, improve coordination between personnel and detect possible aspects to be reinforced to continue guaranteeing the safety of our neighbors and the protection of our natural environment. Their continuous training and coordination skills are essential to respond effectively to any risk situation ”.

For their part, the areas of Citizen Security and the Environment have stressed the need to maintain this type of exercise on a regular basis, especially in a municipality with large forest areas and natural spaces that require constant attention in terms of prevention.

With this action, the City Council of Finestrat reaffirms its commitment to prevention, citizen safety and the protection of the natural environment, betting on prevention, coordination and training as key tools to minimize the impact of possible forest fires this summer.
