The Mayor receives Sara Blaha, author of the European-recognized drawing “A girl between two worlds”
18/05/2026Today, May 18, is International Museum Day and Finestrat commemorates it this Saturday 23 with “one of pirates”. It will be with the conference of the professor of the Department of Contemporary History of the University of Alicante, Leonardo Soler Milla, who will talk about “Finestrat, in a sea of pirates, corsairs and slaves”. It will deal with Finestrat in the Middle Ages: settlement, relations between Christians, Muslims and Jews. It will also deal with pirate sieges on the coast and the relationship of Finestrat with the Cove. It will be this Saturday, May 23, at 12:00 p.m., at the Museu de Finestrat. Free admission.
From the Department of Culture, the mayor of the area, Héctor Baldó, invited to take advantage of this occasion to visit the Museum, located in the green lung of the historic center such as the Parc Alcalde Miguel Llorca. “You only have to read the Google reviews to see how much those who visit it like our Museum and also those who have the opportunity to have this space to show their work”. Among the appreciations of the search engine:
- “It’s not just a museum: it’s a living space, with soul, where culture feels close and authentic”
- “In the farmer’s house I moved like in a time machine to the past. Excellence from start to finish in the journey”
- “The recent visit was especially pleasant. The environment could not be more attractive: the constant sound of the water, the vegetation that surrounds the park and the majestic presence of Puig Campana create a unique atmosphere, almost frozen in time”.
The MUSEU DE FINESTRAT is located at the entrance to the historic centre. It has a parking area, as well as being in the heart of Parc Alcalde Miguel Llorca, a green lung of more than 1,000m2 with more than 100 different species of Mediterranean vegetation. Excellent for walking, with a stream in the central part, walkways, wooden bridges, pergolas, a bio-healthy park, a playground with swings and benches. In the centre of this park is the Museu de Finestrat, made up of 2 very different buildings: the old farmhouse where the ETHNOLOGY COLLECTION faithfully reproduces the life of our ancestors at the end of the nineteenth century; and a modern building that houses the ARCHAEOLOGY COLLECTION on its 1st floor. Recovered in different excavations in Finestrat, it offers visitors a journey through history from the first settlements of the Upper Palaeolithic to the traces of cultures as significant as the Iberians, Romans or Arabs until the Christian conquest during the fourteenth century.
On the ground floor of this building is the TEMPORARY EXHIBITION HALL. A special commitment to show all visitors local talent and a space that sometimes also hosts other cultural events such as literary presentations and conferences programmed by the Department of Culture of the City of Finestrat.
In 2025, the Museu de Finestrat achieved the Q FOR TOURISM QUALITY awarded by the ICTE (Institute of Spanish Tourism Quality). “A distinction that reflects our commitment to excellence and quality that this space offers to visitors, tourists and residents of Finestrat. There we do not stop growing, with more exhibitions, with more proposals such as literary presentations and conferences. This Saturday I invite you to join us to discover the Finestrat of the pirate era. A conference by the expert from the University of Alicante, Leonardo Soler Milla, with which we commemorate International Museum Day “, concluded Héctor Baldó. (PRESS OFFICE.18.5.2026)
