Grants approved for the EMUFI Municipal Summer Nursery School in Finestrat
03/07/2026Finestrat has been reaffirming its commitment to the Environment and the selective collection of glass containers for 3 consecutive years by revalidating the prestigious Green Flag for Sustainability of Ecovidrio. Today the mayor of the Environment, Estela Álvarez, presented her adhesion to the Green Flags Movement 2026 together with Enrique Picó, ECOVIDRIO Management technician in the Valencian Community.
As the mayor of the area explained on the beach, “the Green Flag of Sustainability recognizes the joint effort of the local hospitality sector, citizens and the party stalls. The keys to this recognition include the volume of recycling, as during the summer months of last year we collected more than 64 tonnes of glass containers in Finestrat; the ecological impact, as this figure made it possible to reduce CO₂ emissions into the atmosphere by 37 tonnes; and the participation of the hospitality industry with some thirty establishments that joined the #MovimientoBanderasVerdes in 2025, standing out for their initiatives to improve waste management and efficient energy consumption. So, one more year, we are embarking on the GreenFlags movement because, as you know, every gesture counts,” said the Councilor for the Environment, Estela Álvarez.
With the 2026 campaign, ECOVIDRIO seeks, once again, to recognize the effort of the local hospitality industry and the activism of coastal municipalities for circularity during the summer, especially in relation to the correct management of their waste. Likewise, this year Ecovidrio will recognize the two hospitality establishments for their good environmental practices in the Valencian Community, evaluating their initiatives to improve the management of waste recycling, their energy and water consumption or their commitment to sustainable purchasing, among other variables.
In the words of Manuel Sala, manager of the Valencian Community of Ecovidrio: “One more year we are very proud to be able to celebrate a new edition of the Green Flags Movement and to once again have the help of municipalities and hoteliers to respond to the notable increase in waste generation registered by coastal areas with a high tourist rate in summer. I want to thank all the municipalities and the HORECA sector for their commitment to this competition to promote recycling and the development of our environment in a sustainable way”.
During the summer, a third of the glass containers put into circulation are consumed, and about 50% of single-use glass packaging waste comes from the hospitality sector. Therefore, their participation is essential to move towards a more circular model with lower carbon emissions.
With the aim of helping municipalities and participating hospitality establishments in the selective separation of glass containers, Ecovidrio will install a total of 200 new containers and will give them nearly 1,300 wheeled bins free of charge so that they can transport their waste. As in previous editions, it will also provide hoteliers with environmental and circular economy training, with nearly 100 environmental educators, who will visit participating bars and restaurants during this summer.
As a novelty this year, it should be noted that for the municipality that has obtained the highest score in each autonomous community, it will be awarded with an environmental awareness campaign in the street, with the aim of reinforcing citizen commitment to recycling and the circular economy.
The dissemination of the campaign has already begun by the City Council of Finestrat in digital MUPIS located at several strategic points of maximum visibility such as Carrer Fonteta, in the historic center, Avenida Picasso and the Commercial Boulevard, in CCLa Marina. Also on screens located in La Cala (Avenida Finestrat) and in the commercial area with a large influx of public.
The collaboration with ECOVIDRIO also includes other actions such as the recent vinyl of 10 containers with some of the main tourist resources of the town: the Puig Campana, the Ermita del Castell, streets of the historic center or the beach of La Cala. All this with the slogan “Finestrat recycles glass proudly”.

About Ecovidrio
Ecovidrio is the only specialised SCRAP that manages selective collection on the ground and responds to the sustainability of glass packaging from the source. Since 1997, after the approval of the Law on Packaging and Packaging Waste and the start of its operations in 1998, Ecovidrio has been working to make the transformation of our towns and cities a reality in the face of the challenges of the circular economy, so that the efforts of companies, administrations and communities prosper thanks to the knowledge, dedication and innovation capacity of the entity.
For more than 25 years, Ecovidrio has designed an effective, efficient and sustainable recycling system; which has the commitment and trust of almost 6,000 packaging companies that make glass recycling possible through the Green Point. This system has allowed seven out of ten glass containers to be recycled in Spain today.
