Finestrat joins the global movement “Earth Hour” again

Finestrat once again joins the “Earth Hour” convened by WWF. This was reported by the Department of the Environment and on Saturday, March 28, at 8:30 p.m., they will turn off the ornamental lighting that illuminates “La Penya” in the historic center and also the promenade of La Cala between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

2026 marks the 20th edition of “Earth Hour“, 20 years from the beginning in Sydney as a symbolic gesture to the fact that it has become a global movement to defend the planet and draw attention to the problem of climate change. A simple gesture that consists of turning off the lights of buildings and monuments for an hour and that many years later goes around the world, in the month of March and once a year, uniting millions of people, companies and institutions from almost 200 countries.

“From Finestrat we are once again part of this global movement to draw attention to everything that each person can do to preserve our environment. Without a doubt, every gesture counts.” said the Councilor for the Environment, Estela Álvarez.

And among the examples of government actions, Álvarez recalled the implementation of solar panels on the roofs of public buildings, the expansion of LED technology in public lighting, with more than 2,000 points, the Community Composting Center to generate natural fertilizer from surplus gardening and school canteens. Also the celebration of awareness days such as Arbor Day, facilities such as the Ecopark or the Ecomobile “to facilitate the selective collection of waste as much as possible”; in addition to promoting sustainable mobility with the Cala-Bulevar Greenway or the La Penya Ring. “So this Saturday, March 28, in addition to changing the time, we join Earth Hour and between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. we will turn off the lights of the Paseo de La Cala and also the intelligent LED ornamental lighting.
