FITUR: The Museu de Finestrat achieves the Q for Tourist Quality and the Tourist Info of La Cala, the S for Sustainability

FITUR 2025 continues to give good news such as the recognition of a job well done. The 1st Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Culture, Nati Algado, received last night in Madrid the Q badge for the Museu de Finestrat awarded by the Institute of Spanish Tourism Quality (ICTES) in recognition of the City Council’s efforts to promote Quality. For her part, also within the framework of FITUR, the Councilor for Tourism collected the S for Sustainability granted by the same national body to the Tourist Info Cala.

In the words of the 1st Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Culture, Nati Algado. “the Tourist Q is more than a badge and the Museu de Finestrat had to be here. It reflects the work, commitment, excellence and quality that this space offers to visitors, tourists and residents of Finestrat. There we have expanded our cultural activities with more exhibitions, with literary presentations. We are growing. And we must not forget that it is also a space with an archaeological museum of pieces collected in the municipality and an ethnological museum that shows the family life of our not so ancestors. The Museu de Finestrat climbs these standards of quality and does so from a privileged place, in the historic centre, in the middle of a botanical garden that deserves to be visited.”

S for Sustainability for TOURIST INFO LA CALA

At FITUR Finestrat, the ICTES (Institute of Spanish Tourism Quality) also presented the S for Sustainability badge for the Tourist Info of La Cala. “This office is right across from the beach. We opened its doors just over 1 year ago. And it is already a benchmark in compliance and effectiveness with the Sustainability Plan. Last year this same Tourist Info was already distinguished at FITUR with the Q for Tourism Quality for our commitment to all standards of excellence. And now he adds this award. As Councillor for Tourism I am very happy for these distinctions. It is the public recognition of the work we have been doing. I am also very grateful to the Finestrat Tourism team for their involvement and, above all, to all the tourists and visitors who choose us as a destination every year,” she said Donna Rebecca Plummer.

It should be noted that Finestrat was one of the first municipalities in the Valencian Community to become a Smart Tourist Destination in 2016. Today it is at the maximum level within the national DTI network along with destinations such as Seville, Bilbao or Malaga. In addition, it is recognised by the Generalitat as a Tourist Municipality of Excellence. And in 2024 it won the Sustainable Village Award.

Projects for a Finestrat + Sustainable, + Innovative, + Accessible

In this line, it should be remembered that the Destination Tourism Sustainability Projects are underway, with which Finestrat achieved €3 million from the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plans (2021 call) within the EU Next Generation funds.

Among the actions in execution and imminent start is the elevator from the Plaça de la Unió Europea to the Castell where the Hermitage is located. “An action to facilitate access to residents and tourists to the highest part of the historic center and that will revitalize one of the oldest areas of our municipality”; also the intelligent LED ornamental lighting, the improvement of the access road to the historic center and the green ring that will value the pedestrian and bicycle traffic under the hanging houses over La Penya.

In the case of these distinctions, the City Council of Finestrat has resources from European Next Generation EU funds: Action 32 of Training and Quality Improvement Plans in Destination (SICTED), through a subsidy of € 7,018.00 destined to the service contract for the obtaining and maintenance of Q Turística and S Sustainability.
