The events for “Women’s Week” are already underway, commemorating March 8th, International Women’s Day. This past Monday, January 2nd, the co-education workshops concluded at the “Puig Campana” school. These workshops will also conclude soon at the “Balcó de Finestrat” Primary School and the Finestrat Municipal Infant School (EMUFI). And yesterday, the Museum hosted the book presentation “She Loved Me” by Mª Ángeles Vergara, as part of the 8M Finestrat events.
In the words of the Councillor for Equality, Mª Teresa Pérez, “we are at the midpoint of Finestrat’s Women’s Week. Yesterday our Museum hosted a cultural event that was also a heartfelt tribute to women, especially women of yesteryear. It was the literary presentation of Mª Ángeles Vergara and her novel “She Loved Me”.
The events continued today at the municipal library where, each month, the Culture Department unveils a new shelf of books. “And, on this occasion, to mark International Women’s Day (March 8th), we’ve added a space dedicated to the ‘Equality Library’ with titles on personal growth, self-help, self-esteem, and self-care.” “Wings to Fly,” “Being Happy in Alaska,” “The Glasses of Happiness,” “Atomic Habits in Action”—books that guide us, that nurture us, that help us grow and become a better version of ourselves.

Sunday, March 8. Gifts that I have populated. Gifts that paint Gifts.
A big day. March 8th, Sunday, International Women’s Day. Carrer Nou and Carrer Fonteta will be adorned with the traditional “fanalets,” colorful crocheted lanterns made throughout the year by volunteer women from Finestrat. From that day forward, more than 100 fanalets will illuminate the sky above Carrer Fonteta and Carrer Nou; and, new this year, the fanalets will also grace Plaça de l’Àmfora in La Cala.
On March 8th, starting at 12:00 PM, the open-air exhibition “Women Painting Women” will be open on Carrer Nou. This exhibition features nearly 40 works created in recent months by students of the Puig Campana Art School, as well as paintings made in the 25N workshop. “As an innovative element, we invite our visitors to participate in this exhibition. At the end of the tour, we will provide blank canvases where anyone who wishes can write inspirational phrases for this day, March 8th, commemorating women’s rights.” The exhibition will be on display until March 27th at the Museu de Finestrat.
In addition, the Association of People with Disabilities of Benidorm and surrounding area (ASMIBE) has prepared the details that the City Council will give to attendees on Sunday, March 8.
