In this working meeting, the mayor, Nati Algado, transferred to Elena Albalat priorities such as going hand in hand with a key need: the Day Center for the care of the elderly
The Councillor for Social Services, Family and Children, Elena Albalat, visited Finestrat, where she held a working meeting with the mayor, Nati Algado, to address the social needs of the municipality and strengthen institutional coordination, as well as to establish a common roadmap to study the creation of new care places in the municipality. Also present on this visit were local government councillors such as the First Deputy Mayor, Víctor Darío Llinares, the Councillor for Social Services, María Teresa Pérez and the Councillor for Youth and Children, Sara Llorca.
After signing the Book of Honour, the Minister, together with the mayor and the head of Social Services met with the board of directors of the Finestrat Pensioners and Retirees Club. With this meeting, the mayor wanted the Minister of Social Services to know first-hand the concerns, the concerns of the elderly people of Finestrat and possibly those who need Social Services the most. Concerns that have been expressed in the meeting between the Minister and the mayor. On the table, a majority demand among the residents of Finestrat: the Day Center.
“The Day Center is key. It is a historical claim and an essential need,” said the mayor, Nati Algado. “And the way forward is like this: sit down to talk, transfer these concerns to the Generalitat, through the Ministry, to go hand in hand. And the most real fact is that today the councillor is here in Finestrat”. Likewise, the mayor thanked the visit and the willingness shown by the councillor to analyse the needs of the municipality and study possible solutions that allow responding to the existing social demand.
For her part, the Councillor, Elena Albalat, underlined the Council’s willingness to collaborate closely with the council and confirmed that the central objective of the day is to analyse the need for a Day Centre, a priority demand of the municipality. “We are aware of the need for places for our elderly both in day centers and in residences and we are going to study the feasibility of this day center for Finestrat,” he said. In this sense, he has advanced that both administrations are going to begin a phase of analysis and technical work from a realistic and sustainable planning. “Our objective is collaboration with the municipalities and public-private collaboration, a formula that this Council is going to use to create more care places for our elderly,” he said.
During the event, the councillor signed the City Council’s book of honour and thanked the council for its invitation. “It is the first time that I visit Finestrat as Minister of Social Services and it is a pleasure to be here to collaborate with the City Council, continue to coordinate in terms of social services and, above all, continue working for people,” she said.
Finally, the mayor also explained the situation of Finestrat and has indicated that the town has several urban centers, such as the historic center, La Cala and urbanizations, where aging is not distributed equally. On this aspect, he clarified that “there are areas with more elderly people who live alone, which generates greater vulnerability. Part of that is what we’re compiling in that Health Asset Map and the Unwanted Loneliness Map. Two documents that we will present soon and where our concern for the people and resources that we can make available to them is reflected, in close collaboration with the Generalitat, so that infrastructures such as the day center are soon a reality,” he said.
