03/03/2026During the last night, oxygenation work was carried out on the sand of La Cala. With specific machinery, they have proceeded to carry out an intense ploughing of the sand up to 30 centimeters deep to turn it, aerate it and thus improve both its quality and comfort for the user by reversing its compacting. In the course of the work, the Councilor for Beach and the Environment, Estela Álvarez, was present.
“It is an action that we carry out once a year. And the most appropriate date is right now, between Christmas and the San José long weekend, when the presence of people on the beaches is lower than the rest of the year. For this reason, it is also carried out at night. In fact, the tractor spends the whole night turning the sand because over time it compacts and becomes more uncomfortable for users.” In addition, this process helps to eliminate microorganisms, fungi and bacteria by aerating the land, improving the quality of the beach.
After this procedure, the usual maintenance tasks continue with the beach cleaning machines, which also help to filter and air the sand.
