Finestrat renews its collaboration with AFA Marina Baixa to support people with Alzheimer’s and their families

21/09/2026Can you imagine if social media and new technologies had existed in the 17th century? That’s the cultural offering this Sunday, September 27th, at the Finestrat Cultural Center: “The Ridiculous Précieuses,” Molière’s classic adapted by director Marcos Altuve.
What is “The Affected Young Ladies” about? Magdelon and Cathos arrive in Paris in search of love and sophistication, but their obsession with fashion, appearance, and affected language leads them to behave ridiculously and superficially. They call themselves “the Affected Young Ladies.” Their uncle Gorgibus tries to find them suitable husbands, and suitors La Grange and Du Croisy are eager to court them, but they soon discover their shallowness. To get rid of them, they devise a plan: the servant Mascarilla will impersonate an aristocrat called the “Marquis de Mascarilla,” a character with false etiquette and flowery language who will impress the young women. The rivalry is on.
The Councillor for Culture, Héctor Baldó , stated that “We continue our September cultural activities with an unmissable event this weekend. This comes amidst excellent news: our joining the Circuit Cultural Valencià for the 2026 and 2027 seasons. Belonging to this network of the Institut Valencià de Cultura guarantees us a program of performing arts and allows us to bring top-level professional shows to Finestrat. Thanks to this, this Sunday, September 27th, we will enjoy “The Ridiculous Précieuses” at the Casa de Cultura. Director Marcos Altuve adapts Molière’s brilliant comedy, transporting its protagonists to the digital age. We’ll see them as true influencers with smartphones, obsessed with hashtags, posting stories, and getting likes and followers. It’s a hilarious and multi-award-winning play, recently receiving the award for best performance at the Cáceres Classical Theatre Festival in 2025.” Besides being a comedy, “The Ridiculous Precious Ones” is a play that invites the audience to reflect on the obsession with public image and also on the role of women in today’s society.
Through this comedy, Molière critiques vanity, inauthenticity, and the obsessive pursuit of social status—customs typical of his time. Marcos Altuve directs and adapts this work, transposing it to the digital age, marked by social media and the superficiality that often accompanies it. And he does so without losing sight of the central role of women in contemporary society.
