Finestrat renews its collaboration with AFA Marina Baixa to support people with Alzheimer’s and their families

The agreement, endowed with 1,500 euros, will allow the promotion of programs of care, support and accompaniment to the affected people and their families

Coinciding with World Alzheimer’s Day, which is commemorated every September 21, the Finestrat City Council and the Association of Relatives, Patients and Collaborators of Alzheimer’s of the Marina Baixa (AFA Marina Baixa) have renewed the collaboration agreement for the development during this year of different programs aimed at people affected by Alzheimer’s disease, as well as their relatives and caregivers .

The agreement includes a municipal financial contribution of 1,500 euros , intended to partially finance the actions carried out by AFA Marina Baixa within its therapeutic, assistance and psychosocial support intervention program

The agreement was signed by the Mayor , Nati Algado , and the president of AFA Marina Baixa, Garbiñe Mondragón . Also present at the signing were the Councilor for Social Welfare and Senior Citizens, Mª Teresa Pérez , and the association’s social worker, Inma Grimal .

The Mayor of Finestrat, Nati Algado , highlighted the importance of this new step in the collaboration between both entities: “Behind every diagnosis is a person, and behind every person is a family, many shared moments, and also many needs. That’s why today we’re taking a step to be a little closer to all these people by signing this agreement with AFA Marina Baixa, the association of families of Alzheimer’s patients. Because accompanying, caring for, and not feeling alone are also part of caring for health. And that’s what we want to do in Finestrat: be there for people.”

The collaboration between the Finestrat City Council and AFA Marina Baixa aims to promote the continuity of these programs and make it easier for people and families in the municipality to benefit from the resources and services offered by the association.

AFA: Attention and support to families

AFA Marina Baixa is a non-profit organization at the regional level that constitutes a specialized resource of reference for the care, support, advice and accompaniment of people affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias, as well as their families and caregivers.

Their work aims to promote the well-being, personal autonomy and permanence of the affected people in their family and community environment for as long as possible, also offering guidance and support to those who carry out caregiving tasks.

The Finestrat Town Council recognizes the social value of this work and the importance of maintaining coordination with AFA Marina Baixa in cases involving users residing in the municipality. The agreement itself establishes collaboration between the association and the municipal Social Services to facilitate the care and monitoring of users in Finestrat.

Among the actions jointly celebrated by the Finestrat City Council and AFA Marina Baixa to raise awareness of this disease is the literary presentation of the work “Every glance counts. What Alzheimer’s cannot erase. which Alejandro Sellés Owen dedicates to his mother and whose funds raised by the sale of the book go to AFA Marina Baixa; the screening of the Goya Award-winning documentary ” Mientras seas tú” (2023), which tells the story of the actress Carme Elías, diagnosed with Alzheimer’s; or the location of AFA solidarity stalls at the Friday Market on Carrer Castellets.

In addition, to raise awareness of World Alzheimer’s Day, which is commemorated every September 21st , LA PENYA de Finestrat will be illuminated in green tonight.
