03/03/2026One more year Finestrat makes visible the fight for gender equality on the occasion of March 8, International Women’s Day. On this occasion, the Department of Equality has organized a series of awareness events that will value the achievements and advances in equity and also the need to continue working every day for real equality in all areas of society. The events scheduled for this month of March and within the framework of 8M will once again have as their motto “Dones que fem Poble”. The mayor, Nati Algado, and the Councilor for Equality, Mª Teresa Pérez, together with the President of the Associació de Dones de Finestrat, Teresa Climent, presented the 2026 program.
Monday, March 2. Coeducation in schools
Egalitarian co-education workshops have been held for years in the classrooms of the “Puig Campana” and “Balcó de Finestrat” Infant and Primary schools and the “EMUFI” Municipal Nursery School. They start in September with the school year and, within the framework of March 8, they direct the focus to “International Women’s Day”. “It is key to instill the values of equality from an early age. In addition to avoiding stereotypes, they will be able to have tools to identify them and act from an inclusive and egalitarian vision”.
Tuesday, March 3. Literary Presentation “She Loved Me”
The Museu de Finestrat hosts the literary presentation of Mª Ángeles Vergara. Her novel, “She Loved Me,” is made up of 13 stories that pay homage to the women of yesteryear. It will be at 6:00 p.m. at the Museu de Finestrat.
Wednesday, March 4. Egalitarian Library
In the Municipal Library “Els nostres Mestres” from March 4 there will be a specific corner for all books with an egalitarian theme for 8M. Titles on personal growth, self-help, self-esteem or how to take care of oneself such as “Wings to fly”, “Being happy in Alaska”, “The glasses of happiness”, “Atomic habits in action”. “They are books that guide, that take care of us, help us grow and be a better version of ourselves,” said Mª Teresa Pérez, mayor of Equality.
Thursday, March 5. Farewell to the Board of Directors of the Women’s Association
After years and years of work, the current Board of Directors of “l’Associació de les Dones” chaired by Teresa Climent is saying goodbye. It will be with a snack in the Sala Jove, starting at 6:00 p.m.
Friday, March 6. Trobada de les Dones de la Marina Baixa
On Friday, March 6 and as usual in the week of 8M, the “Trobada de Dones de la Marina Baixa” is celebrated. This year the host municipality is Callosa d’En Sarrià. All women from Finestrat who want to attend can register at the Headquarters of the Women’s Association on Tuesday, February 24, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday 25 in the morning, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Saturday, March 7. Talleres “YOU DESERVE IT. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF.”
Saturday is the day to take care of ourselves. To this end, different activities have been organized in the Sala Jove:
10:00h. Pilates.
11:00 a.m. Pelvic floor.
12:00 p.m. Pilates.
13:00h. Pelvic floor.
5:30 p.m. Gentle yoga.
6:30 p.m. Yoga in movement.

These activities are aimed at women from 14 years of age and older and aim to promote generational relationships. They are aimed at all levels. “And it is conceived as a space for self-care, well-being and prioritizing oneself in society,” said the mayor of Equality, Mª Teresa Pérez. These workshops are subsidized by the State Pact of the Ministry of Equality.
Sunday, March 8. Gifts that I have populated. Gifts that paint Gifts.
Big day. 8 March, Sunday, International Women’s Day. Carrer Nou and Carrer Fonteta will dress up with the traditional “fanalets”, knitted with coloured crochet throughout the year by female volunteers from Finestrat. “The fanalets are already a symbol of Finestrat and a representation of the women of Finestrat,” said Teresa Climent, President of the Associació de Dones. “Every year they come back on the occasion of March 8 and more and more people come to visit them.” From that day on, more than 100 fanalets will colour the sky of Carrer Fonteta and Carrer Nou; as a novelty, the fanalets will also arrive at the Plaça de lÀmfora de La Cala.
On March 8th, starting at 12:00 PM, the open-air exhibition “Women Painting Women” will be open on Carrer Nou. This exhibition features nearly 40 works created in recent months by students of the Puig Campana Art School, as well as paintings made in the 25N workshop. “As an innovative element, we invite our visitors to participate in this exhibition. At the end of the tour, we will provide blank canvases where anyone who wishes can write inspirational phrases for this day, March 8th, commemorating women’s rights.” The exhibition will be on display until March 27th at the Museu de Finestrat. At the end of these events there will be a wine of honor.
8M workshop on Mary Anning, a paleontologist who made history
On the same Sunday, March 8, in the afternoon, the Youth Centre hosts a workshop on Mary Anning, known as the first paleontologist in history. “It is an activity aimed at children from 4 to 11 years old in which we invite them to reconstruct the skeleton of a dinosaur, unearth fossils, explore the functioning of a volcano and create mini-worlds inspired by the Jurassic era. A way to get closer to the universe of Mary Anning, a pioneering woman in the world of paleontology”. There will be 2 shifts by age: the 1st for the little ones, at 5:00 p.m.; and the second, at 6:30 p.m. Places are limited. To participate, it is necessary to register in advance at agendafinestrat.es. This workshop is subsidized with funds from the State Pact of the Ministry of Equality.

A week that concludes on March 8 with the inauguration of the fanalets al carrer, an iconic image of our town thanks to the effort of the women of Finestrat for a whole year to give color and visibility to 8M. And also this outdoor painting exhibition: “Dones que pinten dones”. We encourage you to participate and share a date as important as International Women’s Day”.
