Key day in the works of the Finestrat elevator

2 cranes lift and fit the 12-tonne, 27-metre-long walkway between the lift and the Castell de Finestrat

The work, 50% paid for by European funds, facilitates accessibility to neighbors and visitors to one of the most emblematic areas of Finestrat

12 tons in weight. 27 meters in length. And at a height of 26 metres. It is the footbridge that connects the elevator with the Castell de Finestrat. Today it has been installed with two large cranes in a very precise and millimetric work. The mayor, Nati Algado, was there together with the First Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Urban Planning, Víctor Darío Llinares, the mayor of European Funds, Héctor Baldó, the municipal team of Urban Planning and the company awarded this action, BECSA, in addition to the company Carpimer, manufacturer of the walkway.

“A key day for the work on the elevator. Today we install the walkway that connects the elevator with the Castell. A millimetre, very precise operation, to lift 12 tonnes of footbridge from the Plaça de la Unió Europea, in a single piece, and fit it from the lift to the Castell. The goal: to be more accessible and to make it easier to visit one of the most beautiful places in Finestrat. It is our commitment to accessibility, to revitalize the highest part of the historic center. And we are sure that it will also become a new tourist attraction to visit Finestrat,” saidthe mayor, Nati Algado.

The elevator will connect the Plaça de la Unió Europea where the House of Culture is located with the highest area of the historic center, known as “El Castell”, where the Hermitage of Santo Cristo del Remedio is located. Its capacity is 13 people and the forecast is that it will be up and running this summer.

It is one of the most emblematic works promoted by the local government of Finestrat. 679,268.89 of investment, of which €300,000 come from European Next Generation EU funds, within the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plans, and the remaining amount contributed by the City Council.

In figures, the metal walkway has 27 meters long by 3.20 meters wide. The weight is 12 tons. As far as lifting and placement are concerned, 5 different manoeuvres have been required: unloading of the gangway, approach to the main crane, approach of the gangway with 2 cranes (main + auxiliary), lifting to the initial position and lifting to the final position by the main crane.

The entire operation has had the prior coordination of manoeuvres following the Health and Safety Plan and preventive load simulation tests in the conditions closest to the real ones.

Finally, the mayor thanked the traffic and security device deployed by the Finestrat Local Police to support the arrival of the footbridge to Finestrat in a large convoy “which has allowed this operation without any traffic cut or retentions”. He also thanked all the technicians involved in this operation “because it has been a key day in this action. And everything has come out of 10”.
